Yes, I do it too. It’s kind of an addiction. My wife thinks I have some sort of complex about boxes. But I’ve finally realized all I need is a filing palette of some sort and any old bag to carry paper, brushes, etc.

Best Richard

A lot of great info here. I too uses a tripod to paint watercolours. I'm sort of obsessed with making those watercolor set ups, pochade box from cigar boxes, shelves for tripods etc. I even have bifold box shelves that houses most of the things you would need outdoors. Water is definitely the heaviest to carry. As for the umbrella, I rigged up a bicycle umbrella holder from ebay, attach it to the tripod, used one leg of a broken tripod to extend the height of the umbrella. It's for light weight umbrella that you could slip into the open end of the tripod leg attached to the holder. A rock sack is a must as a counter weight.

I own three. Reason being that the postage to Australia for one was 80 Euros (104 USD)but for three it was 95 Euros (124 USD). Slightly heavier than my Craig Young PaintBox but the wells on the Spanish Palette are larger. Like the Craig Young the wells can be removed to give an extra mixing area. There are, I believe three types each with a different outside colour - Black, White, and Grey. Some people have said that the White and Grey are inferior to the Black but I haven't had first hand knowledge of this and all mine are Black. All three had a small overspray of black inside the lid (They are not baked enamel) 5mm x 2mm but this was easily removed with a magic eraser.
All in all, as a metal palette, they would, IMHO, come second to a Craig Young product.

Thank you for your helpful clarifications about the beautiful wooden pochade boxes. The Spanish metal palette shown above looks really good to me but when I went on the website linked I could not find it under Watercolor or palette or boxes. Do you have another link to a source for that palette. Thanks
