After I retired, I went to the New York Academy of Art and got an MFA in painting. I’m an artist member of the Society of Illustrators (maybe that’s why I like Homer.) I’ve illustrated some nature books, written a book of the Apple II computer and a few books on psychiatry (that’s what I did before I retired.)
My background in cognitive science has led me to create another blog here where I discuss in layperson’s terms what has been found out about how people use vision to make art by doing things like having an artist draw a portrait while undergoing an MRI (well, actually a fMRI). It seems to me it could be very helpful for artists to know this material, and it certainly contradicts everything that is said in art school.
